Alberto Valdés

Alberto Valdés holds a PhD in Biology and Food Sciences from the Autónoma University of Madrid (2016). His doctoral thesis obtained the highest grade of “Sobresaliente – Cum Laude” unanimously and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. He has done pre and postdoctoral stays in the Analytical Chemistry Department of the prestigious Biomedical Centre of Uppsala (Sweden). He currently has a Juan de la Cierva – Formación contract at the University of Alcalá. His research activity is focused on (i) the development and application of advanced analytical methods to characterize natural food ingredients, natural extracts and foods, and on the study of the effect of these compounds on the transcriptome, metabolome and proteome of different models (in vitro and in vivo); (ii) the identification of the signal transduction pathways and metabolic processes affected, the mechanisms of action, and the discovery of potential (bio)markers altered by those compounds using bioinformatics tools; and (iii) the development and application of different targeted and discovery methods to study the phosphoprotein expression in different models using high resolution mass spectrometry. His scientific work is reflected in a total of 25 scientific articles published in high impact index journals included in the SCI, and 8 book chapters published (or in the publication phase) in prestigious editorials. The results obtained in his research have been presented in different national and international conferences. In addition, he has directed the research work carried out by a master's student (Final Master's Project) and one Degree Project in Chemistry at Uppsala University. Given his extensive scientific experience, he has also collaborated in teaching tasks in different courses and seminars.
